Two Routes: Residence and the New Investment Decree

Argentina traditionally allows naturalization only after 2 years of legal residence; this is one of the shortest residence periods in the world. A decree issued in 2025 established a direct citizenship route, with no residence requirement, in exchange for a strategic-sector investment of approximately USD 500,000 (or approximately USD 1 million in bonds).

Implementation Is Developing

Although the direct citizenship-by-investment route was established by the 2025 decree, implementation and administrative processes are still taking shape. The current functionality, required documents, and timelines should therefore be carefully confirmed before application. The traditional 2-year residence route, by contrast, is well established and predictable.
